The Luxe Team

Meet our Milford Sound Luxe Team

Toby

Founder & Lead Milford Sound Tour Guide

Toby is not a born, but certainly a bred, Fiordland local with a proud passion for his backyard and loves to show it off. Toby, along with wife Katelyn moved to Te Anau in 2020 after having both grown up as kids holidaying in the area.

Toby is passionate about showing people Milford Sound and all the wonders that exist on the way in. He was previously a career firefighter with an extensive safety background - good to have on this particular piece of road.

Along with Katelyn, they have explored almost every nook and cranny of the Milford area and know some pretty special spots that others may not.

When not showing our guests around this beautiful playground that is Fiordland, Toby is in the outdoors boating, fishing, waterskiing, hiking, mountain biking and looking after his young family.

Katelyn

Founder & Guest Experience Manager

Where do we start on this energiser bunny? When we haven't constrained her to the office, you will find Katelyn up in the mountains exploring. A two time GodZone Adventure Race competitor, Katelyn has seen parts of Fiordland so far off the beaten track, most would never have the opportunity to experience and even imagine existed.

Mother to a young family, she is often found juggling their love for outdoor adventure with your's as our guests. While our guides are out for the day taking you through Milford Sound, you will find Katelyn planning the next days Milford Sound tour from Te Anau, managing bookings, food, Milford Sound cruise logistics, and making sure our guests are ready for a whirlwind adventure.

Aside from Milford Sound Luxe Tours, Katelyn will be out of sight in the mountains or bush around Te Anau or Fiordland, often going on overnight hikes or any adventure racing competitions she can find. A lover of coffee, Katelyn has rockstar brewing skills due to spending five years as a Starbucks barista!

Murray

Milford Sound Tour Guide

You know those people that were just born to look after others with the highest of care and standards? Meet Murray, one of our tour guides here at Luxe.

Fiordland & New Zealand runs through Murray's blood and his passion for Te Anau and the surrounding area is clear to see for all. Following an extensive career of management, safety & people at the Tiwai Aluminium Smelter at the bottom of New Zealand, Murray moved to Te Anau to follow his love for the outdoors and experiencing the wild nature of Fiordland.

Murray says that one of his favourite moments when tour guiding is "seeing the speechless look on people's faces when they have 'that moment' somewhere along the tour".

Murray's other favourite moments outside of guiding are fishing on the many rivers & lakes around Fiordland, spending time with his family & a "small" drop of whiskey with friends.

Nicky

Milford Sound Tour Guide

Originally from the North Island, Nicky fell in love with Fiordland through visiting & exploring this special corner of the world, so much so that she decided to pack up everything and move to Te Anau, the gateway to Milford Sound, in 2016.

Nicky has a love for tramping, climbing, kayaking, open water swimming & even ice skating - basically anything outdoors and after being a Paramedic most of her life, the outdoor call was simply too much and now she is a guide for Luxe Tours, where she loves meeting new people & hearing their stories..

When not showing you her favourite parts of Fiordland & Milford Sound, you'll find Nicky on her small block of land, spoiling her mini hourses, chickens, dogs, cats and of course husband. She even has seven grandchildren!

Alice

Fiordland Enthusiast & Writer

If you have read some of our very helpful articles on Milford Sound and related topics, you might have our amazing writer Alice to thank. Having spent time in Fiordland with her family as a child, Alice enjoyed her parent's stories of their time working for the Wildlife Service and being a part of the Takahe rearing & breeding programme to care for the once assumed extinct species.

Alice has a Masters Degree in Applied Science, and together with her love for nature and the environment, her passion is clear on paper for all to read. Alice brings together research, first hand knowledge and her impeccable communication skills to help produce our best articles and helpful content.

When not writing, you will find Alice exploring parts of New Zealand and enjoying her passion for nature first hand, as well as spending time with friends and family.
